Funded by a US Department of Commerce EDA grant, Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures and the Johns Hopkins Technology Innovation Center have partnered to organize and enhance the digital health ecosystem in the Chesapeake region. The initiative hosts events, workshops, and creates a shared knowledge-base with the goal of advancing the region's competitiveness in becoming the east coast hub of digital health.
The widespread adoption of electronic medical records across a range of medical practice settings creates an enormous amount of digital information. Maturing big data analytics, artificial intelligence and clinical decision support tools allow for rapid, new insights from text, data and images spanning petabytes of data. This puts us on the cusp of a national revolution in digital health and precision medicine.
Well positioned to serve as the east coast hub of digital health, the Chesapeake region is served by one of the leading health information and data exchanges in the country and operates under a unique reimbursement system that promotes innovations. It is home to world-class academic medical research institutions in addition to some of the largest federal agencies supporting healthcare.
